AQUATICS ADULT CLASSES:
AQUA AEROBICS: Class free with an Adult or Family Membership. Aerobics in the water are easier on the joints and water adds resistance and variety to your workout. This class offers all the essential elements needed for a cardiovascular workout, plus toning, strength and flexibility. Upbeat music will keep you going. A painless way to shed extra pounds and inches. You don’t need to know how to swim and there is no need to go in the deep water if you choose not to do so.

ARTHRITIS WATER EXERCISE: Class free with an Adult or Family Membership. A low-level exercise class for persons with arthritis or anyone interested in a less vigorous approach to water exercise. The program is designed to improve joint range of motion, using gentle stretching and muscle toning movements. Conducted in our Spa Pool, the warm water allows muscles to relax and the buoyancy of the water assists in ease of motion. Whether you have arthritis, have had surgery, or just can’t keep up with a more strenuous class, this class is for you.

OVER 50 FITNESS: Class fee with an Adult or Family Membership If you are over 50 years and young and would like to do some fun exercise in the large pool, come and give this low low impact, stretching and toning muscles a try. We meet once a week for an hour. You don’t have to know how to swim to enjoy our class. We have large steps into the pool to make access easy. Have fun while you workout! SILVER SPLASH: Class fee with an Adult or Family Membership A low to moderate impact water exercise class for adults of all ages. This class combines shallow water muscle toning exercise and aerobic movements using resistive and flotation equipment. Swimming skills are not necessary as all movements are performed in shallow water. This is a great “in between” class for those who wish to participate in a shallow water program.

ADULT LEARN TO SWIM: Free with Adult, Family Membership for adults with little to no swim experience who would like to learn the basics of swimming and water safety. AQUATICS, CHILDREN'S SWIM LESSONS:
GENERAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION: All Progressive swim lessons are free with YMCA Family Membership. 1. Pre-registration is necessary. You may be registered for only one class at a time. Registration must be made by noon the day before the class begins. 2. Members may register at any time. Non-members may register one week prior to the first class of each session. 3. Registration is on first come, first serve basis. Registrations may be made by mail or in person; phone registrations will be accepted with a credit card. No registrations will be accepted without payment or necessary deposit. 4. All Family Membership swim lesson registrations require a $20 deposit at the time of registration. If attendance criteria are met the deposit will be credited to your account. No deposit is required for Non-Members. 5. A waiting list will be started whena class is full. Additional classes and/or instructors may be added if needed and possible. 6. If a class is cancelled due to insufficient registration and the registered persons can not be moved to a suitable class, each registrant will be offered two private lessons.
EARLY CHILDHOOD AQUATICS: The Franklin YMCA Aquatic Staff is dedicated to helping your child become safe, skilled swimmer who learns to love the water. Children are encouraged to explore this new environment using swimming skill instruction and practice, games of low organization, and play time. In this way your child will have the necessary opportunities to develop his/her swimming ability in an encouraging, supportive, fun atmosphere.
Water Babies: (Designed for babies & toddlers 6 months to 3 years) This structured class is designed to help the parent help their child to become comfortable in the water. The instructor will lead you through skill techniques, games, songs and free play that will prepare your child to learn to swim. You will learn about water safety and accident prevention to help protect your child. This class is held in our warm water pool for your child's comfort.

Pike and Eel: These two levels are held at the same time but children will be taught skills according to ability. This beginning swim class is for pre-school children ages 3-5 years. Water and boating safety and water adjustment skills are taught as well as swimming with or without a flotation device. Taught in our spa pool, the shallower, warmer water encourages children to explore their aquatic environment.

Ray and Starfish: These two levels are held at the same time but children will be taught skills according to ability. Held in the large pool, these classes prepare your child for the more advanced swim lessons of Polliwog through Shark. Rotary breathing is introduced, as well as improvement of previously learned skills including floating, stroke techniques and decreased use of flotation devices. Safety is stressed, as well as introduction to acting correctly in emergency situations.

Aquatics, Youth Swim Lessons: School Age Progressive Lessons- (Designed for children ages 6 years and older)
Polliwog: For children 6 and older with little or no previous swimming experience. Gliding, floating, face immersion, floating skills, water safety, and beginning crawl and backstroke are taught at this level.

Guppy: Designed for children who have passed either Polliwog or Starfish. Class includes continued development of water safety, front crawl with rotary breathing, treading, floating, backstroke and deep water skills.

Minnow: For swimmers who have passed Guppy. Instruction aimed at perfecting the front crawl, back crawl and elementary backstroke. Diving, treading, water safety and endurance are worked on in this class.

Fish: For swimmers who have passed Minnow. This class introduces the breaststroke, butterfly and sidestroke. Swimmers improve endurance and work on safety/rescue skills.

Private Swim Lessons: The Y offers private swim lessons for both children and adults. Learn to swim and/or improve your skills at a time set for your convenience. Contact the YMCA, Aquatics Director for more details or to set up a lesson.

Franklin Flyers Swim Team: Dates: Begins Monday September 20, 2010 continues to February through April, 2011 depending on swimmers ability to qualify for advanced competition. Days: Monday through Friday Registration Start Date: September 8 and 9 6:00-8:00pm (Learning Center) Registration End Date: Open Ended Location: Big Pool *There are three levels: Bronze=Beginner; Silver=Intermediate; Gold=Advanced *Must be a YMCA Member Times: Bronze: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 4:00-4:45 Silver: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 4:00-5:00pm, Tuesday, Thursday: 4:00-5:15pm Gold: Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 4:45-6:00pm; Tuesday, Thursday 4:30-6:00pm Fees: Bronze: $109; Silver: $137; Gold: $149 High School:$79 (This is for people who begin practice with us and then transfer to FHS or RGHS swim team practice, when it begins in November, but still compete with the Y. Trial: $35 (For those wishing to give swim team a try. Usually applied to Bronze level. Allows them to practice up to the first meet and swim in that meet.
