Swim Team Coach

FRANKLIN YMCA Swim Team Coach position available. Part time position of less than 30 hours/week. Current certifications preferred.

Position Summary:

Maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Ensures that the swim team members are improving their stroke techniques while having fun. Swim Team Coach is responsible for overseeing the Winter Swim Team, Summer Swim Team, and the Pre-Team Clinic.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Organize practices for different age group and levels
  2. Develop sets for practices for each age group to enhance their stroke technique and endurance
  3. Handle any discipline problems that may arise
  4. Coordinate with parents about schedules (practices, meets, invitationals), deadlines, pictures, swim suit orders etc.
  5. Organize swim meets in order to get all swimmers in the events and make sure of attendance
  6. Coordinate with the booster club on all things
  7. Coordinate with the Aquatics Director about pool times, necessary equipment, etc.
  8. Be on deck before swimmers enter the water. Swimmers are not to be left unsupervised during swim practice or at any meet.

Qualifications/Education/Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent experience (optional)
  2. Two years of competitive coaching in a sanctioned league or equivalent (preferred)
  3. Current lifeguard certrification or water safety for swim coaches (able to certify the right candidate)
  4. Current CPR/AED for the professional rescuer and first aid certifications (able to certify the right candidate)
  5. Principles of Competitive Swimming and Diving certification
  6. Must have excellent communication and organizational leadership skills with all ages
  7. Basic knowledge of the YMCA, its mission, character values, and history
