The Flyers is a competitive swim team that competes with other YMCAs.  The prerequisite swimming ability is to be able to swim 1 length of the pool in any manner.  We'll teach you the rest!  Swimmers range in age from 5 to 19.  Practice starts in September and ends in Feb., Mar., or Apr. depending on how far each swimmer advances in competition.  WINTER SWIM TEAM MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO BE MEMBERS OF THE FRANKLIN YMCA. Meets begin in the first part of November and continue through February.  These meets are rewarding and fun for both the swimmers and their families.  Although competitive swimming is a demanding sport it is also very rewarding.  It builds strong athletes and develops a sense of teamwork and sportsmanship.  Many of our swimmers have gone to Districts, States and even Nationals (held in Ft.Lauderdale, FL).  High achieving swimmers may receive college scholarships.  It is a sport that you can participate in for the rest of your life.  We understand that children participating in competitive swimming may have other interests.  Our philosophy does not discourage swimmers from participating in sports and other activities during the season.
WE WANT YOU! Become a part of this competitive sport.  At the beginner level stroke development and learning to be part of a team is emphasized.  At the more advanced levels, competitivenes, teamwork, race strategies and the fine-tuning of the four competitive strokes are skills that are stressed.

Franklin Magic All-Star Cheerleading is the only recreational and competitive cheerleading team in the area.  The team participates in competitions governed by the United States All-Star Federation and the American Association of Cheerleading.  Basic and advanced cheerleading skills are taught.  Holly McKenzie and Shelly Thomas are the AACCA certified Coaches.  Participation includes parades, public exhibitions, and local/regional competitions.

Magic Charms: Ages 5-8 1:00-2:00pm
Magic Mirage & Levitation: Ages 9 and older 10:00am-1:00pm

Many of our team members have been National, State and Western PA Champions.  Our league is unique because we compete with other YMCA organizations. We incorporate our mission and our core values in every practice and meet that we participate in.  The team participates in competition governed by the United State Gymnastics Federation.  The coaches and staff are safety traned and certified;  all team members must have a current Y membership to compete in the Western PA Gymnastics League.  Team members have opportunites to compete in local, state, and national championships.  We offer levels 3-8.  This is a year round program.
